Who We Are

Premier sleep apnea care, built around long-term patient relationships.

Liberty Sleep Apnea is a proudly Canadian-owned provider of CPAP supplies and equipment, and one of Manitoba's only private sleep apnea clinics. From our location in the heart of St. Boniface, we serve patients across Winnipeg and ship CPAP supplies to customers nationwide.

We are the premier choice for sleep apnea testing, diagnosing, and treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Our shelves carry the major machine, mask, and accessory brands trusted by clinicians — and what we don't stock, we special-order. Our pricing is competitive, our inventory is large, and our service is built around long-term patient relationships rather than one-time sales.

You'll find us at 264 Tache Avenue, easily accessible from anywhere in Winnipeg with ample street parking right at our front door. Our space is intentionally modern and well-organised - comfortable, never clinical, and equipped with private rooms for consultations, fittings, and education

Behind every appointment is the work of our Registered Respiratory Therapists — knowledgeable, well-trained professionals who ensure you're fitted with the right product for your condition and educated on its best use. Our clinical lead holds the RPSGT credential, one of the highest in sleep medicine and held by very few clinicians in Canadian CPAP retail.

We stand behind our promise of exceptional service and care for each individual that comes through our doors. To us, meeting a new client is not about a sale.

Liberty Sleep Apnea is also the sister clinic to Liberty Med, our partner medical practice in St. Boniface. That connection means your sleep apnea care is plugged into a broader network of clinicians, physicians, and care coordinators — and that nothing about your treatment falls between the cracks.

We view it as the start of a long-term relationship where you can count on us to take good care of you for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might be wondering.

How do I know if I have sleep apnea?

The most common signs of sleep apnea include loud, persistent snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, daytime fatigue despite a full night's rest, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, waking up with a dry mouth or sore throat, and falling asleep during routine activities.

Sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed because people are unaware they stop breathing during the night — a bed partner is frequently the first to notice. Risk factors include being over 45, carrying excess weight, having a thicker neck, high blood pressure, and a family history of the condition.

The only reliable way to confirm sleep apnea is through a sleep study. At Liberty.

Do I need a referral to come to Liberty Sleep Apnea?

For an insurance-covered at-home sleep apnea test, you'll need a referral from a family doctor or specialist. If you don't have one yet, give us a call - we can help you understand exactly what to ask your doctor for.

You do need a referral to come in for a consultation, a mask fitting, equipment service, or to shop CPAP supplies. Those services are open to anyone - patient or not.

How much does a CPAP machine cost in Manitoba?

CPAP machines typically range from approximately $1,400 to $2,000 in Canada, depending on the model and features. Basic CPAP units sit at the lower end; auto-adjusting APAP machines with integrated humidifiers and advanced data tracking sit at the upper end.

If you come through Liberty as a private patient, we'll help you understand your insurance coverage upfront and find the right machine for your budget. We carry the full range from value units to premium models, and we'll honestly recommend the one that fits your therapy needs — not the one with the highest margin.

Is sleep apnea testing and CPAP covered by my insurance?

Most major Canadian insurance providers — including Blue Cross — provide some level of coverage for CPAP machines, masks, supplies, and sleep apnea testing. Coverage amounts vary widely by plan, from $500 caps up to full reimbursement.

At Liberty, we work directly with Blue Cross. We handle the prior-authorisation paperwork on your behalf and submit claims so you don't have to chase reimbursement yourself.

Bring your insurance details to your consultation — we'll verify your coverage upfront so you know exactly what to expect. If you have multiple plans (yours and your spouse's, for example), we'll coordinate both.

How long is the wait to get a sleep study in Winnipeg?

Wait times for Manitoba's public sleep clinic system can stretch 12 months or longer for an initial sleep study, depending on demand and your priority level.

As a private clinic, Liberty Sleep Apnea sees patients within days of referral. Most patients can complete an at-home sleep study, have results reviewed, and be fitted with equipment within a couple of weeks — not a year-plus.

The trade-off is cost: public testing is government-funded; private testing requires payment, though it's frequently partially or fully covered by extended health insurance.

What is an at-home sleep apnea test like?

A home sleep apnea test (HSAT) is a small, comfortable kit you take home for one night. You wear:

  • A soft chest belt that measures breathing effort
  • A small finger clip that measures blood oxygen and heart rate
  • A nasal sensor that tracks airflow

You sleep in your own bed — no overnight hospital visit required, no being watched, no wires everywhere. The next morning, you return the kit and our clinical team, together with a sleep physician, interprets the recording to determine if sleep apnea is present and at what severity.

Most patients prefer at-home testing over in-lab polysomnography because it's faster, more comfortable, and substantially less expensive — while still being clinically accurate for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea.

What if my CPAP mask doesn't fit or I can't sleep with it?

Mask discomfort is the #1 reason people quit CPAP therapy — and at Liberty we refuse to accept that. If your mask isn't working, call us.

We also coach on pressure, ramps, humidification settings, headgear adjustments, and accessories like mask liners that can transform comfort. If you're struggling with therapy, the problem is almost always fixable — give us a chance to fix it.

Can I order CPAP supplies from Liberty if I don't live in Winnipeg?

Yes. We ship CPAP machines, masks, accessories, and replacement supplies anywhere in Canada. Shipping is free on orders over $75.

Whether you're an existing Liberty patient, a CPAP user from another province, or shopping for supplies you've been prescribed elsewhere, you're welcome to use our online store.

For prescription items like machines, you'll need a current prescription on file. We can guide you through that process - and if you have questions about which mask, filter, or accessory to order, our team is a phone call away.
